2019 Jeep Cherokee Is Recalled Over Stalling Risk

More than 86,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs are being recalled due to a software problem that can cause the vehicles to stall when drivers slow to a stop.

The recall is limited to 2019 Cherokees with the 2.4-liter engine, according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Jeep’s parent company.

FCA says that a stall may happen “in rare instances,” but if it does, drivers may be able to restart the vehicle immediately. A spokesman says the company isn't aware of any related injuries or accidents because of this problem.  

The Details

Vehicles recalled: 86,053 2019 Jeep Cherokee SUVs with the 2.4-liter engine.

The problem: Bad software in a controller can cause the vehicle to stall.

The fix: Dealers will update the software for a powertrain controller at no charge to owners.
