Chevrolet-FNR Autonomous Car Concept Rolls Into Shanghai

The Chevrolet-FNR autonomous car concept is loaded with sensors and roof-mounted radar that allow for driverless operation.

General Motors has experimented with the idea of automated cars since the 1950s when it used wire buried in pavement and magnetic pickup coils on a Chevrolet Impala prototype. Today, GM's autonomous prototypes look a bit different, as evidenced by the Chevrolet-FNR autonomous EV making its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The Chevrolet-FNR concept is loaded with sensors and roof-mounted radar that allow for driverless operation. It reminds us a bit of the Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion autonomous car, since it too has front seats that can swivel to face the rear seats. Instead of push-button start, the Chevrolet-FNR features iris recognition technology. Gesture controls allow drivers to switch from autonomous to manual driving mode.
